The Challenges of Adverbs IV

In this article, we will continue to examine the challenges posed by the adverbs 鈥榤uy麓 and 鈥榤ucho麓 in Spanish translation. The previous one concluded by drawing attention to the fact that the Spanish translation for 鈥榮o much麓 is 鈥榯anto麓, and 鈥榯an mucho麓 is an expression that does not exist in Spanish.

The above-mentioned rule has its exception, namely, that when an adverb is being used to modify an adjective, then it is customary to use 鈥榯an麓 and not 鈥榯anto.麓 The correct Spanish translation for the English expression 鈥楾he road is so long麓 will read as 鈥楨s tan largo el camino麓.

Though 鈥榖astante麓 (enough) and 鈥榙emasiado麓 (too much) are actually adverbs, they are often used as adjectives. In the case of such usage, translators must ensure that the words are in agreement with the verb of the sentence.

Spanish Translation 开心鬼传媒

We will conclude this discussion with an examination of the use of the infinitive form 麓tener麓 in Spanish. 鈥榯ener麓 is the Spanish equivalent of the English infinitive verb form of 鈥榯o be麓. The basic formulas for constructing a sentence are the same in English and Spanish: subject + appropriate form of 鈥榯o be麓 + adjective/adverb and adjective in English sentences and subject + appropriate form of 鈥榯ener麓 + noun/adjective and noun (in Spanish sentences).

If Spanish translators can keep the formula in mind, they will reduce the probability of making mistakes when working on a Spanish translation.
